I am a long-time progressive and labor activist, having first become active as a canvasser in a Barnwell County Council race at the age of 12. I majored in political science at the University of South Carolina-Upstate and went on to become a professional field organizer, working on races in six states between 2004 and 2010. The following year, I joined Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART) local 399, and was elected as their AFL-CIO representative in 2016.  In 2014, I was a congressional candidate, running against Joe Wilson in the South Carolina second district.  Last year I was the state Green Party campaign coordinator and served as a state delegate to our national convention in Houston.  I currently reside in St. Matthews and in my spare time am a freelance writer and visual artist.

 

 

The national party deals with a variety of issues which, immodestly, I guess I have more familiarity with than any other South Carolina Green.  Whether these are looked at as opportunities, as some do, or as the residue of failure, as others do, I feel an obligation to continue to engage.  As many know, I have served on the National Committee for several terms, have served on the Fundraising Committee, and am now on Observer status with the Finance Committee, where I served as a full-time member for two terms.  As an observer, I listen in on some Fincom calls, proof read all Fincom documents, and substitute as the bi-monthly conference call monitor when Frank Young is either ill or otherwise committed.  I agree to continue with this level of participation for two more years should I continue on the National Committee. 

 

 

Disgusted with our current political bi-partisan system, I hope to see massive progressive changes in the future.  I have been an active member of the Green Party for two years, currently am a member of the Steering Committee and Co-chair.  I claim no mastery in politics, I am learning;.  I view introducing science into our current political climate is of critical importance.  I hold a bachelors degree in Physics with Astronomy and am presently working on my Masters of Teaching, specializing in Science Education in Secondary Schools.  

 

 

I am everything Green Party, and I stand by the 10 Key Values & 4 Pillars. I definitely stand by the main statement on the national Green Party website gp.org:  "We are grassroots activists, environmentalists, advocates for social justice, nonviolent resisters and regular citizens who’ve had enough of corporate-dominated politics. Government must be part of the solution, but when it’s controlled by the 1%, it’s part of the problem . . ."

 

 

I have been an active member of the SC Green Party since its founding, and I currently serve as Treasurer on the Steering Committee.  My main activities for the Green Party this past year have been to file our quarterly paperwork with the State Ethics Commission, file our reports with the State Elections Commission and County Election Commissions, maintain our bank accounts, and serve as a Delegate to the Green National Committee.  I would like to serve another term in order to help the SCGP reach more of its potential for public education and campaigning.  We've been able to attract interesting candidates, but we need more attention to helping those candidates get the green message out through the electoral process.
